How do I manage (add, edit, delete & apply) product options?
by Admin on May 15, 2011
Type: Tutorial

Overview
If you wish to sell products that differ from one another but slightly (e.g. in color or in size), there's no need to create a separate product for each of these variations. Instead, you can treat them as one product and sell them under the same product title without further changes to the original product.

To enable your customers to choose the necessary product variation, you can describe the difference between the variations in terms of product options - i.e. choices available to select from when ordering a product item. When adding an item to the shopping cart, your customers will select the desired option or combination of options and thus will let you know which of the variations they want.

The product options allow you to use single or multiple options for products. Depending on the nature of the product being sold and on the quantity of variations of the product that need to be made available for sale, your approach to defining product options will be different.

This topic is divided into four steps, as follows;

  1. Create an option
  2. Create and manage option set or groups
  3. Applying option set or group to a product
  4. Managing  individual product options

Create an option

Go to Inventory > Manage Options > Create Options to create a product variation such as size, colours etc.

Applying option set or group to a single or multiple products

Now, that option set will be available to choose from add product section (under option tab). Alternatively, you can assign an option set to single or multiple products in just few clicks;

  2. Select products from the product window (single click to select single product or press and hold Ctrl key to select multiple products) then click the "Add" button to move them to the selected product window below.
  3. If you are happy with your selection then simply click the save button (or to remove from the list simply select product and click the above "Remove" button). That's it; all selected products will be assigned with that option set.
